MTSNAC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT  SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

MAY 13, 2002

WINDSOR COURT HOTEL

NEW ORLEANS, LA.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Attendees:

Bernie Groseclose                    American Association of Port Authorities

Hank Marcus                           MIT Center for Transportation Studies

Kathy Dunn                              Maritime Administration

Michael Smith                           SAIC

The co-chairmen (Groseclose and Marcus) discussed their participation in

the ICMTS R&D Conference in Washington, D.C. in November 2001.  It was hoped that the conference summary would be available for the subcommittee meeting, but it was not yet available.

ADM Carl Seiberlich was kind enough to fax to the subcommittee an update of

research activities underway.

During the subcommittee meeting, Michael Smith of SAIC found on his computer IT and R&D issues that had been identified --but not developed--at the Tyson's Corner SEA-21 meeting.   The co-chairmen agreed to develop these issues (i.e. fill out the forms) for the overall SEA-21effort.

The topic of security as it related to the topics of the IT and R&D

subcommittee was discussed.   It was decided to identify the security

aspects of each of the research topics of the IT and R&D subcommittee.
