AWARENESS TEAM

Responsible for increasing awareness of the benefits of MTS to the Nation's economy and developing strategies and programs that will bring visibility to the contributions made by safe and efficient maritime activities. Scope includes public outreach programs and periodic publication of "white papers."

HUMAN RESOURCES TEAM

Responsible for addressing issues relating to the human factors which directly impact on the safe and secure maintenance and development of our MTS. Scope includes worker safety, and labor training and availability.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND R & D

Responsible for identification of relevant research and development projects that support MTS vision attainment. Responsible for identification of funding sources and traditional and innovative means of conducting the research.

INFRASTRUCTURE TEAM

Responsible for identifying the landside and waterside access challenges for MTS cargo and passenger movements and exploring ways to improve and modernize the MTS infrastructure system, including the intermodal connections. Scope includes review of funding mechanisms to improve MTS infrastructure.

INLAND WATERWAYS TEAM

Responsible for identifying and addressing those issues which directly impact our nation's inland waterways, ports, terminals and related infrastructure.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TEAM

Responsible for addressing issues concerning improvement of the MTS in two main areas: safety of people and property and protection of the environment. Oversee the development and implementation of structured analyses of MTS safety and environmental impacts and a systematic approach to improving safety and environmental protection.

SECURITY TEAM

Responsible for addressing issues concerning improvement of MTS security, such as the recommendations contained in the MTS Report to Congress as well as related recommendations.   Scope includes physical security of ports, vessels, and waterways and their infrastructures; cargo crew, and passenger security; improvements in efficiency and communication between agencies with security responsibilities.

SHIPYARD TEAM

Responsible for identifying unique and creative strategies to improve our nation's shipbuilding capabilities and enable them to contribute to the nation's economic security.

SHORT SEA SHIPPING TEAM

Responsible for addressing the impediments to the development of a robust national coastal shipping system, which can help alleviate highway congestion and improve air quality in our large, coastal metropolitan areas.
